Details

Yoka

About this experience

This private experience is not about learning rules or creating something perfect.

It is about how you choose.

Rather than speed or correctness, you are invited to follow what quietly moves you.

Through flowers, tea, fragrance, and simple tools, this experience offers a gentle return to senses that are often overlooked in daily life.

If, after this time, you find yourself trusting your own choices a little more, that is the purpose of this experience.

What you may take home

– A calmer inner rhythm
– A basic understanding of nageire ikebana
– Greater trust in your own sense of choice
– A way of noticing that can return with you into daily life

Detail

A contemporary experience of fragrance, flowers, and tea, inspired by Japan's long relationship with the natural world.

Preparing the Mind for Flowers

The experience begins with the fragrance of traditional Japanese incense. Take a few quiet moments to focus on your breath and settle the mind through a short meditation. As the fragrance gently fills the space, leave the noise of everyday life behind and prepare to meet the flowers with renewed awareness.

Learn to See

Before arranging, you will spend time simply looking at the plants.

Notice the direction of a branch, the curve of a stem, the texture of a leaf, and the way each plant has grown.

Follow the Plant

You will then choose a vessel and arrange flowers in the spirit of nageire, a free and natural style of Japanese flower arrangement.

There is no single correct form. Rather than forcing the plant into a shape, you will learn to follow its natural movement.

A Moment of Tea

After arranging your flowers, slow down once more with a bowl of matcha and a seasonal Japanese sweet.

Take a moment to look back at the flowers you have arranged and enjoy the quiet beauty of the season.

This is not a traditional ikebana lesson focused on learning formal techniques.

Instead, it is an opportunity to experience, in a contemporary way, a sensibility that has long been part of Japanese life: welcoming flowers and the changing seasons into our everyday surroundings through fragrance, breath, plants, and tea.

We begin by experiencing the fragrance of incense traditionally used in temples, followed by a short meditation to settle the breath and quiet the mind. We then take time to carefully observe seasonal plants before choosing a vessel from a selection of different forms.

For the arrangement, we practice nageire, a free and natural style of Japanese flower arrangement that follows the inherent form and movement of each plant. Closely connected to the flowers of the tea ceremony, nageire developed as a way of allowing each flower and branch to express its natural character, rather than fitting the plant into one predetermined form.

The experience concludes with seasonal Japanese sweets and matcha. As you admire the flowers you have arranged yourself, take a quiet moment to experience the changing seasons through fragrance, breath, plants, and tea.
